Alien Machinery Found In Russia

300 million year old machinery has been found in Russia – experts say the steel gear is not the result of natural forces, and may be extraterrestrial.

alienmetal

According to Yulia Zamanskaya, when a resident of Vladivostok was lighting the fire during a cold winter evening, he found a rail-shaped metal detail which was pressed in one of the pieces of coal that the man used to heat his home.

Mesmerized by his discovery, the responsible citizen decided to seek help from the scientists of Primorye region. After the metal object was studied by the leading experts, the man was shocked to learn about the assumed age of his discovery. The metal detail was supposedly 300 million years old, and yet the scientists suggest that it was not created by nature but was rather manufactured by someone. The question of who might have made an aluminum gear in the dawn of time remains unanswered.

The New Age Cure For Insomnia

“This is how it is with insomnia. Everything is so far away, a copy of a copy of a copy. The insomnia distance of everything, you can’t touch anything and nothing can touch you”

― Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club

fightclubart1

Insomnia can be very detrimental to your health – it can cause stress, apathy, impaired memory, weight gain and a decrease in your immune system power. A study by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) showed that as high as 70% of us suffer from sleep deprivation, and most of these go undiagnosed and untreated.

sleepmonitor

Among other conventional methods such as changes to your diet or exercise, one way to get control of your sleeping habits is a sleep monitor. These can vary in their features, but the best of which automatically detects running, biking or walking as well as sleep. For example, Basis’ Body IQ™ 2014 Carbon Steel Edition features all of this in addition to personalized sleep reports for each phase of the sleep cycle.

basissleepanalysis

The Daily Mail reports that sleep monitors can actually disrupt your sleep because it gives the user an extra thing to worry about. Alternatively the BBC reports that carefully monitored sleep and exercise patterns can give athletes a competitive edge.

goodsleep

The sleep monitor industry is worth up to $3bn (£1.8bn) also according to the BBC. So, if you would like to see improved mood, weight, and lifestyle why not consider this new age option? I bet Chuck/ Tyler wished he had.

Shanghai Metal Corporation manufactures value added carbon steel products like this sleep monitors. Privacy Unveiled …By Lamposts

Lamposts and laptop webcams have reportedly been used to listen in on private conversations in the USA, UK and China.

lampostvforvendetta

In the UK, the so-called Sigard system has been tested in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Coventry. The microphones, connected to CCTV cameras, can recognise aggressive “trigger” words and sounds, then automatically direct cameras to zoom in on the speakers. Manufacturers denied the system is used to record conversations. It analyses sound patterns to pick out angry or distressed voices. But the makers would not pledge that in the future Sigard would not be used to record whole sections of speech.

The USA will start collecting data through Web-connected sensors installed on lamp poles this summer in an effort to ‘better understand the urban environment and ultimately make Chicago a safer, more pleasant place to live’ according to Bloomburg Business Week.

hacker

A 2009 report from the University of Toronto described a surveillance program called Ghostnet that the Chinese government allegedly used to spy on prominent Tibetans, including the Dalai Lama. The authors reported that “web cameras are being silently triggered, and audio inputs surreptitiously activated,” though it’s not clear whether the Ghostnet software is capable of disabling camera warning lights.

In response Kyle McDonald and Brian House say they hope to raise questions about the nature of public and private spaces in an era when anything can be broadcast by inventing an eavesdropping lamp that live tweets private conversations.

lampostspies

What questions does this raise about privacy? Should humble items like PC’s and lampposts be exploited to curb on civil rights? Infowars reports that the manufacturers of these lampposts have since taken down any reference on their websites to avoid a backlash. Shanghai Metal Corporation maintains its integrity in its field and manufactures the carbon steel used in lampposts. As an ISO 14001 (International Quality Management System) Company and recipient of the “Star Enterprise Award,” Shanghai Metal Corporation prides itself on exceeding international standards of quality and reliability. Top 3 Ammunition Alternatives

Amid news that there’s a shortage of ammunition in the US (specifically .22 300-, .303 and .243 caliber shells) it may be time to think of some alternatives.

Regarding rumors Homeland Security has stockpiled ammunition, the NRA has clarified in fact government purchase are down in the last three years. In fact it is due to increased demand, rising raw material and labor costs, and tighter gun control. So, here is our list of viable alternatives for this year’s empty handed subsistence hunters:

Rock Salt

Owing to their large bore size, shotguns can load all sorts of unique ammo you wouldn’t normally find on smaller-caliber weapons like rifles or handguns. And if you’re a Tarantino fan, you probably remember the scene in Kill Bill Vol. 2 where Bud blows the Bride away with a shell full of rock salt. Turns out, Tarantino didn’t completely make that up.

Used as something of a poor man’s rubber bullets, rock salt slugs were designed to scare off trespassers—it was a stronger warning than foul language, and not as much overkill as live ammunition. And from the ballistic tests we’ve seen, the idea makes sense. Rock salt is brittle enough to shatter at close range without breaking skin, but it’ll still hurt. Of course, given that you have to hand-load the salt yourself, and the shotgun’s barrel has to be cleaned right away afterward to avoid corrosion, it’s not very practical. On the other hand, it’s the perfect ammo to stockpile if you’re expecting an invasion from giant alien snails.

Homing Bullets

liamneeson

Over at the Sandia National Laboratories, engineers have developed a “smart” bullet, which is expected to hit targets out to a range of 2,000 meters (1.2 miles) with Duke Togo levels of accuracy. The bullet is equipped with an optical sensor that controls a set of miniature fins near the bullet’s tail end. Once a target is “painted” by the laser and the bullet leaves the barrel, the sensor tracks the laser dot, sending signals to the fins to keep it on course and land it within 20 centimeters (7.9 in) of the target.

As far as targeting is concerned, it is a miniature Tomahawk cruise missile, a pocket-sized Liam Neeson that will look for, find, and kill anything within a mile.

Dragon’s Breath

Not all bullets are designed to shoot people with. Some, like the Dragon’s Breath ammo for shotguns, look more like somebody’s way of indulging their inner child (or pyromaniac).

The round uses a magnesium-based ammo that, when fired, triggers gout of flame that can get as long as 30 meters (100 ft). It looks absolutely awesome on a dark night, and it’s guaranteed to make that next home invader wish he brought an extra pair of pants, as long as the shooter remembers not to burn down his home.

bullet coppercladsteelstrip11

If you’re looking for a solution to the shortage however, look no further. Shanghai Metal manufactures the Copper Clad Steel used to make bullets. Copper clad means both sides of the carbon steel are covered with T2 copper. This is a novel alloy material which can be used in a variety of applications.  To find out more, please visit our websiteLinkedInTwitter, Facebook and Instagram. Thor’s Hammer: The Science

Thor’s hammer isn’t real, unless you believe recent Swedish news that Thor’s hammer has been found in Stockholm. No, only in the hearts and minds of comic book and movie fans does it exist. But, assuming it did, would anyone be able to lift it?

thors hammer1

Legend says only the worthy can lift it, and depending on which source you read, it’s made from a dying star. If that is the case, then it would have to weigh as much as a herd of 300-billion elephants according to Neil deGrasse Tyson. If you’re wondering, the average weight of a male African bush elephant is a bit more than 12,000 pounds, so about 4.6 trillion metric tons. Watch a video by Vsauce3 which nicely explains the concept:

If we were to follow the legend that Thor’s hammer was made from metal from Asgard, it would only weighed 42.3 pounds. That is far less than 4.6 trillion metric tons.

ThorHammer4

Most likely if it was made from existing metals it would be made of carbon steel.  Die steel refers to a variety of carbon and alloy steels that are particularly well-suited to be made into tools. Their suitability comes from their distinctive hardness, resistance to abrasion, their ability to hold a cutting edge, and/or their resistance to deformation at elevated temperatures (red-hardness).

carbondiesteelforhammers

Shanghai Metal manufactures the carbon steel in hammers. Die Steel is mainly used for manufacture of cold-work dies with high abrasive resistance and small shock load. SMC is delighted to provide wide range of alloy steel to the customers; we also accept customizations according to your requirements. Become Bullet Proof …Using Water

In most movies, the superhero escapes certain death by simply jumping into water. Or if he’s Aqua Man: go back home. But would that actually save him from someone shooting at him? The answer is yes and no. Myth Busters found the answers.

bulletwater1

It depends on the bullet, and how fast it goes. Paradoxically, the slower the bullet, the deeper it can go. The reason for this is because of the force at which it hits the water. If it hits hard enough, the bullet will shatter and become harmless. But if it is going slow enough, it will continue through the water at speeds fast enough to penetrate human flesh.

Refraction

Supersonic bullets, up to .50-caliber, disintegrate in less than three feet of water, while pistol rounds need up to eight feet to become non lethal. Shotguns slugs require even deeper water. While these are the technical measurements, in most actual situations the bullet would enter the water at an angle, reducing the amount of water necessary to make it non-lethal. This is shown in the refraction picture here.

Copper

Shanghai Metal manufactures the Copper Clad Steel used to make bullets. Copper clad means both side of carbon steel is covered with T2 copper. This is a novel alloy material which can be used in a variety of applications.  To find out more, please visit our websiteLinkedInTwitter, Facebook and Instagram. Modernity In Cinema-Friend Or Foe?

firmvsdigital

The eternal battle against progress, of the marring of romanticized art continues into cinema. The film industry is constantly in motion. While the stories that keep the Hollywood money machine churning run in cycles, technology continues to evolve with every passing decade. A new revolution is stirring as 3D releases, DSLR cameras and free Internet distribution (YouTube, etc.) bring the digital age of film-making to Hollywood’s front door.

newcinema

One of the industry’s most renowned cinematographers, Roger Deakins, recently revealed his intention to move into digital photography. The man with nine Academy Awards nominations is making the switch. Many filmmakers already sit comfortably on the “dark side,” including the most well-known proponent of the digital format – Michael Mann.

rogerdeakins

But why would a 35-year veteran give up the authenticity of film for the sleek look of digital? The Artists depicts how such a progression in technology’s affects on those in the industry:

theartist

“The advent of the talkies sounded the death knell for George Valentin (Jean Dujardin)’s career as a silent movie actor and saw him fall into oblivion. For young extra Peppy Miller (Berenice Bejo), it seemed the sky was the limit – major movie stardom awaited.” Rotten Tomatoes

Hence there are winners and losers in the evolution of cinema. Maybe Roger Deakins is attempting to avoid the fate that hit his past peers – and should be an indication of big changes to come.

Man Of Steel: Why It Wasn’t Called ‘Superman’

manofsteelposter1

In an Empire Magazine podcast, David S. Goyer reveals that the name, ‘Man of Steel’ was chosen for a very specific reason:

supermandirectrdavid

“We decided not to call it Superman,” he explained. “That was very deliberate. Chris [Nolan] and I [suggested] ‘Man of Steel’ and Warner Bros. said ‘Why?’ And we started talking about it, and we said, ‘We want a line of demarcation in the sand between the old and the new’. We always knew we would be using the Superman glyph or the shield as we call it. But Man Of Steel was also supposed to represent our take, which was he’s a man, but he’s not made of flesh and blood, metaphorically he’s a man of steel. So that was sort of the whole thing wrapped up in a nutshell.”

manofsteelposter2

This name also remains loyal to the comic series. One recurring image in the early comics was of bullets bouncing off his chest, as if he were made of steel. Also  in 1986, DC comics published a limited origins series named Man of Steel.

supermanbullets

Steel is an interesting metaphor, as carbon steel for instance is one of the strongest types of steel alloy. As a mix of iron and carbon, the hardness levels and metal wear resistance of high carbon steel is also good quality. Scientifically it could repel bullets as the early comic art suggests.

The Science Behind Saw – Could It Really Have Cut Through Bone?

The final climax of the Saw I movie was of course Doctor Lawrence Gordon’s desperate amputation using a blunt hacksaw.  But realistically, could this have been done? The saw was discovered to be too blunt to cut through chain early on in the move. So, was bone – a carbon based body part – much more reasonable?

hacksaw

Evidence from other movies would agree – Saw isn’t the only movie to amputate limbs with unlikely objects. In  Audition (1999) one character used a long piece of piano wire to wire-saw off and amputate another characters’ feet , albeit in a dream sequence.

In Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours James Franco’s character Aron Ralston had to cut off his own trapped arm with a multi-tool, which included a dull two-inch knife.

The hardness levels and metal wear resistance of high carbon steel is also good quality. Scientifically, they are ideal for cutting and tend to take on much more heavy duty materials like metal.
